I create two-dimensional and three-dimensional mixed media artwork inspired by landscape, history or memory of a site, and personal experiences. In my work, I integrate salvaged and new materials and am drawn to forms and objects that imitate nature or tell a story about perceptions of value.
Along with my interests in architecture and environmental issues, my personal history of having scoliosis or curvature of the spine interplays in my art. There is a quirky balance and manipulation of materials in works that relates to my physical experience of the world. In reflecting on past pieces, many can be seen as kinds of self-portraits or perhaps a tearing down then rebuilding of self.
For the viewer, I hope the work leads to a contemplative response to everyday systems of assessment and beauty.
